Summer In The Apennines

I can see the foothills of the Italian Apeninnes from my home near the coast south of Rome. I love to watch the clouds roll over their peaks whilst basking in full sunshine. We have been skiing in the hills, but our visit to walk through the Abruzzo landscape was long overdue and we were finally able to break away from the humdrum of work and drive north east. The sun continued to shine as we made our way to Lago Barrea and ultimately to the quaint village of Villetta Barrea and our chosen walking route. The views were tremendous and the colour of the lake astounding – a brilliant azzure blue! We hiked through the natural amphitheatre known as La Camosciara. Simply stunning.
