Snow-capped

Early January brought unusually cold weather to southern Italy.

Vesuvius looked stunning with its snow-capped peaks, but driving to its summit was treacherous. The authorities had simply failed to put salt or gravel on the narrow road to the car park leaving the way covered in sheet ice. Cars and pedestrians were sliding all over!

It makes me cross as the trip to this crater is a wonderful experience but undermined by poor management and steep prices for entry and parking (which is also poorly managed) … such a shame.

I captured Vesuvius again from Pompeii …
