A day trip to Laceno back in early January promised a snowy winter wonderland and possibly some skiing. The snow covered hills rendered the views breathtaking. However, we felt unable to ski due to the crowds at the one small resort. Just too busy! This then forced us to explore, which is always a good idea in a ‘new’ place. We found a lovely cafe for a light lunch in the village of Laceno, with a wood burning stove bathing everything in a soporific rosy glow and heat haze. Leaving this nest of warmth, and being full of soup and coffee we ventured back out into the icy winter air and struck up the hill towards its woodlands for a well-needed walk.
Skiing may not have worked out for us on this day, but we could really see the potential for later spring visits with mountain bikes and still more hiking.
